Marathon Sunday is one of the biggest annual celebrations in New York City, bringing together boroughs, businesses, family, friends and colleagues to support thousands of runners from all over the world hitting the city’s streets.
More than 55,000 participants are expected to run the 26.2-mile course this year, ranging from international professional athletes to charity, celebrity and recreational participants who have secured entry via a New York Road Runners program.
Among this year’s runners are PR and communications pros eager to cross the finish line, including first-time marathoners.
PRWeek checked in with 11 bib-holders to see how they’re mentally and physically preparing for the big race and the crossovers they find with their day-to-day client work.

A graduate of James Madison University, Katie helped lead the women’s lacrosse team to the school’s first NCAA Division I national championship. She also played lacrosse professionally before pursuing a career in public relations.
“Sports have shaped every chapter of my life, from competing in college to playing professionally, and running the NYC Marathon feels like the ultimate way to celebrate that journey,” she says. “Partnering with 261 Fearless brings it full circle: I get to channel the same empowerment and community I’ve found through sports into helping other women find their strength through running.”
